Field Trip Guidebooks

Welcome to the NYSGA Guidebook Archive. The NYSGA has held an Annual Field Conference almost every year since 1925 and produced formal Guidebooks since 1956. These self-published Guidebooks contain many detailed descriptions of rocks and localities which cannot be found in other published sources. In addition to descriptions of rocks, road cuts and regions, these Guidebooks also contain interpretations by the authors. Interestingly, the field relationships remain the same but the interpretations have changed over time.

You may search the Guidebooks By Year back to 1925. Alternatively, you may search By Topic. View a guidebook by clicking on the file icon next to the title. You can download an entire Guidebook for a particular meeting or a single Trip Guide. All Guides are available for free.

Note that most Guidebook titles have an additional iconnext to their titles. Click on this icon to display a Google Map (kmz file) of a particular Field Trip Route and referenced Stops on that route. The outlined route and georeferenced locations were painstakingly compiled by Dr. Otto Muller and his team. Please pay proper homage when you next see them!
