2024 Annual Conference Saturday, September 13-15
This year’s NYSGA field conference will be a single field trip focusing on the Structure, Petrology, Geochemistry and Geochronology of the South-Central Adirondacks. The field trip will be led by Dr. David Valentino of SUNY Oswego, Dr. Matthew Gorring of Montclair State University, and Dr. Jeff Chiarenzelli of St Lawrence University.
Field trip attendees may stay at the Lewey Lake Campground in the southern Adirondacks free of charge on Friday and Saturday night. The field trip starts at 8 AM on Saturday at the campground entrance. Attendees will discover the Snowy Mountain AMCG suite and structural dome then traverse south across mixed metasedimentary gneisses and into the Piseco shear zone. 2023 Annual Conference Saturday, September 16

There will be two field trips on Saturday, September 16. In addition, at 6 PM Keynote Speaker Dr. Jay Zambito of Beloit College will present his talk Reconstructing the Devonian Carbon Cycle Using the Northern Appalachian Basin Strata of New York State. New Executive Secretary Alex Bartholomew
After 10 years of active Leadership, Dave Valentino (SUNY Oswego) stepped down as Executive Secretary following the field conference. Alex Bartholomew of SUNY New Paltz takes his place. Dave has agreed to spend the next year working with Alex so the transition is seamless. Please congratulate Alex on his new position!

The 93rd NYSGA Annual Field Conference will be held Friday-Sunday, September 23-25, only a month from today, and will be hosted by the geology program at The State University of New York at Oswego. Registration and Field Trip information can be found here and here

NYSGA Partners with American Geological Institute (AGI)
AGI is a federation of geoscientific and professional associations that represents more than 250k geoscientists across the US and around the world. AGI provides information services to geoscientists, serves as a voice of shared interests in the geoscience profession, plays a major role in strengthening geoscience education, and strives to increase public awareness of the vital role the geosciences play in society’s use of resources, resilience to natural hazards, and the health of the environment. NYSGA shares similar interests.
On Tuesday, November 9th from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, AGI will sponsor an online webinar presenting practical “how-to” information for geoscientists who wish to conduct research in national parks. Speakers will discuss the policies that foster and govern research in national parks, geoscience priorities, National Park Service programs that help researchers do science, internship and fellowship opportunities for students, and insights on doing research in national parks and how to build effective relationships.
